That’s right, people. Riding coolers at the Riggins Rodeo after downing a 12-pack is no longer the most unusual sport in the Gem. It got bumped by something that normally requires a coastline or a marathon Nintendo session with Pro Surfer Kelly Slater and a truckload of poppyseed muffins.

 
It’s called “surfing,” aka riding a board on waves at high speed. How can this happen in the inland Northwest without the aforementioned muffins, you ask? According to the boys of Boise’s Banshee Riverboards, all you need is a helmet, a patented Riverboard, 200 feet of bungee cord and a stretch of river with some current, at least four feet of depth, a downstream eddy and a tree that can hold the weight of a human body snapping through the air at 30 mph.
